Brittlebush (Encelia farinose) [link to Southwest Desert Flora]. These are a multi-sensorial treat. Up on Sentinel Peak a few months ago after it’d been raining, I kept smelling a wonderful sweetly earthy fragrance. Aside from the smell of rain in Tucson, which is itself beautiful, I managed to trace it to these bushes. They produce a resin, turns out, and that resin is noticeably fragrant.
