Music Appreciation: She Keeps Bees

I’ve been in a music kind of mood. Just an unhealthy amount of Lana Del Rey, as always, but also so much music that’s new to me. Here’s an appreciation post on one of my finds: She Keeps Bees!

I’m new to their discography, but I’ve almost never been so impressed with a musical corpus. I happened to hear a club mix of “Owls” a few years ago, which led me to their original. It was instantly one of those songs that I’ll take with me everywhere till the end. It’s on Eight Houses (2014), so far my favorite of their albums (mostly just because I’ll never get enough of “Owls,” really I don’t love one album more than the others, they’re all so stunning).

Their latest album, Kinship (2019), is a work of ecological philosophy wrapped up into an album. That turns out to be one of their hallmarks throughout, but the messages are especially urgent here (with obvious good reasons). Anyway, Kinship makes me wonder if they’re involved with Robin Wall Kimmerer’s collective, who put out a five-volume collection also called Kinship [link to the books’ page]

I hope you enjoy this music as much as I am!
