UofM GEO ON STRIKE: STILL

The university’s bad faith is endless. They are withholding wages from striking grad students in advance of the end of the month when we are typically paid. They have done this to all grad student instructors, even those who are not striking. Please donate to the strike fund here: https://givebutter.com/GEOStrikeFund

Meanwhile earlier this week I read through the minutes of a bargaining session and walked away thoroughly disgusted. Shame on this university, and shame on Katie DeLong, lead negotiator for HR.

Her salary, in case you’re wondering, was $119,600 in 2022. She was paid almost 120K to serve as the face of the university’s exploitation of graduate student labor.

This madness must end. Tell these people their behavior is unacceptable; donate to our Strike Fund: https://givebutter.com/GEOStrikeFund.

Ps, Separately from the strike, I’m calling for a Neurodiversity Constellation Center based on the results of a survey I conducted informally last fall. Read about it here: Call for a Neurodiversity Constellation Center at University of Michigan

  1. What should Katie’s pay be? It sounds like a difficult and stressful job.

    1. No doubt! But that’s not my point. She is paid handsomely to keep grad students deeply impoverished, not because they don’t have the money, but as a matter of power relations, if not merely principle. Good for her, I’m sure it will help her raise her family—but what about us and ours? We *all* deserve a living wage, not middle managers only.
